Mary Haust, consultant and trainer for Parents as Teachers, will present the keynote. Poster sessions will accompany a buffet lunch. Following lunch, a panel will discuss statewide community resources. Afternoon workshops will focus on Literacy Strategies with Parents; participants may select either Birth to Age 3 or Age 3 to Kindergarten. Registration begins at 9:30 AM. Keynote starts at 10:15 AM. Introduce yourself to professional peers who share similar interests over continental breakfast.
The first 100 registrants through the door will receive a complimentary booklet Born Learning: Recipes for Learning. This valuable resource includes tips, ideas, and an overall research based approach to helping young children develop verbal communication skills. NYSPEP believes parenting educators have an important role to play in helping parents understand language acquisition and early literacy as they prepare children for success in schools.

Highly rated workshops, quality programming, and national presenters will inspire and equip you to strengthen families, prevent child abuse, and improve outcomes for at-risk children and families. This year introduces a brand new Pre-Conference Institute on grant writing on Sunday, April 27th.
Workshop Tracks include: Parenting Education & Support, Child Abuse Prevention Skills & Strategies, Reducing Barriers to Children's Well-Being, Family Engagement & Involvement, and Personal & Organizational Resilience.
Plenary Speakers: Janet Rosenzweig, Author of The Sex Wise Parent and VP of Research and Program at Prevent Child Abuse America; Tonier Cain, Survivor, Speaker, and Team Leader at the National Center for Trauma-Informed Care, on Healing Neen; and Joel Weintraub, Humorist & Motivational Speaker.
Documentary Screenings: Healing Neen is the inspiring story of keynote speaker Tonier Cain and her healing from child abuse. Spit’in Anger: Venom of a Fatherless Son is the story of Kenneth Braswell, a national leader in the responsible fatherhood movement. Tonier Cain and Kenneth Braswell will answer questions from the audience following each of their respective screenings.
The conference is co-presented by the New York State Children and Family Trust Fund, Office of Children and Family Services, and co-sponsored by the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children - New York (APSAC - NY).
